I am particularly partial to a spot of shopping in Barcelona.  It has everything you could ask for: designer shops, department stores, chains and masses of small, independent shops.

If you’re after sheet music, music-related books or musical instruments, there is a large FNAC on Plaça Catalunya.  But for something more individual, try these two fascinating, independent shops.

Firstly, Casa Beethoven at La Rambla de Sant Josep 79.  It has been here since 1880 and they count celebrities such as Montserrat Caballé, Josep Carreras and Plácido Domingo amongst their customers.  Visit their website to subscribe and to order items for shipment.

Secondly, wander down the Rambla to the Musical Emporium at Calle La Rambla de Canaletes, 129.  This is another long-established business, serving its loyal customers for over 100 years.  They have specialist knowledge of ethnic instruments and sheetmusic.
